Oversubscription policy — Before the application of oversubscription criteria, students with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) which names the school and who have passed the assessment will be admitted. As a result of this the published admissions number will be reduced accordingly.

 Where qualifying applications for admission exceed the number of places available, places will be determined as follows:

  1.  Eligible boys who are looked after children or previously looked after children.

  2. Eligible boys who appear to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted. 

  3. Of the remaining eligible boys, those who are eligible for the Pupil Premium Grant will be ranked next, in order of the entrance test scores, with those boys obtaining the highest scores given higher priority.

  4.  Of the remaining eligible boys, those who live within the priority area will be ranked next, in order of the entrance test scores, with those boys obtaining the highest scores given higher priority.

  5. Eligible boys who are the sons of current members of staff where the member of staff has been employed at the school for two or more years at the time when the application for admission to the school is made. 

  6. The remaining eligible boys (i.e. those who live outside the priority area and are ineligible for the Pupil Premium Grant) will be ranked in order of the entrance test scores, with those boys obtaining the highest scores given higher priority.

School Summary

Bournemouth School was established in 1901 and is a boys' grammar school in Bournemouth, Dorset. The school became an academy in 2011 and has close ties with local Bournemouth School for Girls.

The school operates a house system with  five houses: Darwin, Scott, Turner, Newton, Elgar. The school also has an active Combined Cadet Force (CCF).

In 2020, 67% of all GCSE entries scored grade 9-7.
