Oversubscription policy — Before the application of oversubscription criteria, students with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) which names the school and who have passed the assessment will be admitted. As a result of this the published admissions number will be reduced accordingly.

 Where qualifying applications for admission exceed the number of places available, places will be determined as follows:

  1. Eligible girls who are looked after children or previously looked after children.

  2. Girls who live within the school’s designated catchment area and are eligible for the Pupil Premium Grant will be ranked next, in order of the total of their entrance test scores, with those girls obtaining the highest scores given higher priority.

  3. Girls who live outside the school’s designated catchment area and are eligible for the Pupil Premium Grant will then be ranked in order of the total of their entrance test scores, with those girls obtaining the highest scores given higher priority.

  4. 130 places will be assigned to girls who scored most highly in the entrance tests, in rank order of the total of their entrance test scores, with those girls obtaining the highest scores given higher priority.

  5. Of the remaining eligible girls, those who live within the school’s designated catchment area and are ineligible for the Pupil Premium will be ranked next, in order of the total of their entrance test scores, with those girls obtaining the highest scores given higher priority.

  6. The remaining eligible girls (i.e. those who live outside the school’s designated catchment area and are ineligible for the Pupil Premium Grant) will be ranked in order of the total of their entrance test scores, with those girls obtaining the highest scores given higher priority.

School Summary

Bournemouth School for Girls was established in 1918 and is a girls’ grammar school in Bournemouth, Dorset. The school became an academy in 2011 and has close ties with local Bournemouth School. It specialises in humanities. 

The school has a house system consisting of six houses, each named after influential women: Jane Austen, Marie Curie, Rosalind Franklin, Rosa Parks, Christina Rossetti, and Mary Shelley. Like Bournemouth School, the girls’ school also has an active Combined Cadet Force, which is rare for a state-funded school.
