Oversubscription policy — Before the application of oversubscription criteria, students with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) which names the school and who have passed the assessment will be admitted. As a result of this the published admissions number will be reduced accordingly.

Where qualifying applications for admission exceed the number of places available, places will be determined as follows:

  1. Children who are or have been in care or are looked after by the Local Authority, or who have been adopted after having been in care.

  2. Up to 30 students will be admitted following the sitting of ability tests. Remaining non-selective places up to the planned admission number of 260 will be allocated according to the following criteria in the order set out below.

  3. Children who will have a sibling(s) already attending the Academy at the time of admission. 

  4. Children of staff.

  5. Children living within the catchment area for, or attending, Portesham Primary School.

  6. Other children.

School Summary

Budmouth Academy  was established in 1900 and is a mixed, partially-selective, grammar school in Weymouth, Dorset. The school became an academy in 2019. It is named after the semi-fictional town of Budmouth (which was based on Weymouth) in Thomas Hardy’s novels.

Budmouth is known for producing above average GCSE results. It is excellent facilities including: extensive playing fields covering 12 acres (49,000 m2), netball and tennis courts, several design studios, a photography workshop, greenhouses and numerous ICT suites.
