Catchment area —  Calday Grange Grammar School does not have a set catchment area. However, priority is based on location and distance from the school. Preference will be given to children with the shortest walking distance from the school as measured by the Local Authority computer mapping system.

Oversubscription policy — In each of the identified criteria below, a requirement of applicants is that they have passed the entrance examinations.

Where qualifying applications for admission exceed the number of places available, places will be determined as follows:

  1. Looked After Children / Previously Looked After Children.

  2. Children with a valid medical or social reason supported in writing by a doctor, social worker or appropriate professional person.

  3. Up to 15 places for children on Free School Meals at the time of application who achieve the qualifying score in rank order of the shortest walking distance from the school. 

  4. Children who will have a sibling at the school at the time of admission. A sibling is defined as: a brother or sister by the same parents, a half brother or sister, a step-brother or sister, adopted child/children living in the same household.

  5. By reference to geographical factors, preference will then be given to children with the shortest walking distance from the school as measured by the Local Authority computer mapping system.

School Summary

Calday Grange Grammar School was established in 1636 and is an all-boys grammar school in  Wirral, Merseyside. The school became an academy in 2013 and has been awarded the Sportsmark Gold award and Investors in People status.

The school is the oldest grammar school in Wirral and has a large, co-educational sixth-form. In 2015, 99.2% of A Level entries passed and all students who applied to university were accepted by their first-choice.

Exam Information

Exam style — GL Assessment for the Wirral Consortium of Schools.

Exam types:

  • Verbal reasoning 

  • Non-verbal reasoning

  • Mathematics

Exam length — 2x 60 minute exams.

Pass mark —  Changes every year. 

Other exam information — 

  • The test is in two separate booklets, each one covering verbal and non-verbal reasoning skills, as well as mathematics. 

  • Both tests are timed and consist of multiple-choice questions. 

  • Students are required to mark answers on a separate answer sheet, which is scored by computer.

  • There will be a break between the tests.

Scores will be standardised.
