Catchment area —  Churston Ferrers Grammar School does not have a catchment area however in the case of a tie, the location and distance of the child’s house to the school will be used to make the final decision. 

Oversubscription policy — Before the application of oversubscription criteria, eligible students with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) which names the school and who have passed the assessment will be admitted. As a result of this the published admissions number will be reduced accordingly.

 Where qualifying applications for admission exceed the number of places available, places will be determined as follows:

  1. Children with an 11+ exam score equal to or higher than the 130th ranked candidate (up to 130 spaces).

  2. Children with an 11+ exam score which places them in the range between the 131st ranked candidate and the 180th in the following order:

    1. Children in care, or who were in care but ceased to be in care because they were adopted or made the subject of a child arrangements order or a special guardianship order.

    2. Children in receipt of Free School Meals or Pupil Premium at the time of the test.

    3. Children of staff working at the school at the time of the test. Staff members must be employed for at least two years and/or recruited more recently to fill a difficult to fill vacancy.

  3. The remaining places available will be ranked according to the 11+ exam score.

If it proves impossible to discriminate between candidates on the basis of the above criteria, those students living closest to the school will have priority. The shorter distance is afforded the higher priority.

School Summary

Churston Ferrers Grammar School was established in 1957 and is a mixed, grammar school in Torbay, South Devon. The school specialises in humanities and became an academy in 2011.

Churston consistently ranks in the top 150 schools nationally for both GCSE and A Level results. The school has links with many schools in Europe and Peru, focusing on environmental issues. In 2007, it was named as a Lead School in south-west England for sustainability. 

The school has won many awards including the Sportsmark, Healthy School and Investors in People awards.
