Oversubscription policy — Before the application of oversubscription criteria, students with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) which names the school and who have passed the assessment will be admitted. As a result of this the published admissions number will be reduced accordingly.

 Where qualifying applications for admission exceed the number of places available, places will be determined as follows:

  1. Children looked after and children who were looked after, but ceased to be so because they were adopted (or became subject to a child arrangements orders or a special guardianship order). 

  2. Children for whom it can be demonstrated that they have a particular medical or social need to go to the school, this includes children previously from abroad who were cared for by the state because he or she would not otherwise have been cared for adequately and subsequently adopted.

  3. Children with a sibling already at the school at the time of application.

  4. Children of staff. 

  5. Children whose permanent residence is located within postcodes WD3-7, WD17-19, WD23-25, AL2 (south of M25), HA6, HA5 3**, HA5 4**, HA3 6**, HA7 3**, HA7 4** 

If criteria 5 is oversubscribed, the following criteria will be used: 

  1. Assessment tests (This rule applies to those living in the above postcodes)

    1. Up to 5% of places (13) for children with a particular aptitude in sport. 

    2. Up to 5% of places (13) for children with a particular aptitude in music.  

    3. Up to 35% of places (94) will be available by ability, in strict order of merit, based on the results of the assessment test.

  2. Distance: Children who live nearest to the school. Any remaining places, not less than 10% (27), for those qualifying under 5 above will be allocated by the shortest distance to the school.

  3. Distance: Children whose permanent residence is outside the postcode areas above, preference being given to those living closest to the school.

School Summary

Queen’s School was established in 1969 and is a mixed, partially selective secondary school in Bushey, Hertfordshire. The school became an academy in 2011 and is the largest in Hertfordshire.

Queen’s School is part of the South West Herts School Grammar School Consortium. It specialises in sports and science. The school’s has won various awards including, the Sportsmark, Artsmark, Healthy Schools and International School awards.

Exam Information

Exam style — South West Herts Consortium Schools Exam (GL Assessment).

Exam types:

  • Verbal reasoning 

  • Mathematics

Exam length — 2x 1 hour exams.

Pass mark — N/A - No minimum score will be required to gain admission, places are offered strictly in descending order of each applicant's standardised test score.

Other exam information — 

  • There will be two separate exam papers - one for maths and one for verbal reasoning.

  • Both tests take approximately one hour to deliver and are provided by GL Assessment.  

  • Both exams are multiple-choice with a separate answer sheet.

Scores will be standardised. 

Please note - Queen’s School is a partially selective school, meaning only 35% of available places in year 7 will be available based on academic ability each year.
