School Summary

Sir Joseph Williamson’s Mathematical School (known as ‘The Math’) was founded by Sir Joseph Williamson, lord of the nearby Manor of Cobham, Kent. Today, the school is an all-boys grammar school in Rochester, Kent. Girls are admitted into the school’s sixth form.  The school became an academy in 2011.

The Math was one of the first schools in the UK to be made into a National Teaching School. It specialises in maths, computing and humanities. The school works with the other schools in the Rochester and Walderslade Consortium to extend the curriculum for sixth form students.

Recent years have seen the school consistently improve on their examination results.  Results in 2019 saw 99% of pupils gain GCSE Maths and English grade 4 with 93% gaining grade 5 in both, and a progress 8 score of +0.53. There were also some of the best A Level results in the school’s history with 40% of grades at A*-A for the first time.

Ofsted rated this school as ‘outstanding’ in 2008. Find their reports here.
