Oversubscription policy — Before the application of oversubscription criteria, eligible students with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) which names the school and who have passed the assessment will be admitted. As a result of this the published admissions number will be reduced accordingly.

Where qualifying applications for admission exceed the number of places available, places will be determined as follows:

  1. Looked After Children and all previously Looked After Children.

  2. Children who have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.

  3. Pupil Premium - 32 Places will be allocated to students on Pupil Premium, irrespective of distance.

  4. The top 20 scoring candidates, irrespective of home residence, will be allocated a place.

  5. Children who will have a sibling attending the School within Years 7 to 11 at the time of admission.

  6. Successful candidates who live within the catchment area of the school; being M32, M33, M41, M15 and M16 (both within Trafford and Manchester) and including M21, this being the next closest postcode to the school.

  7. Children who live nearest to the School, measured in a direct straight line from the child’s permanent place of residence to the School.

School Summary

Stretford Grammar School was established in 1927 and  is a mixed grammar school in Manchester. The school specialises in maths and science.

In 2009, Stretford became the first grammar school in the UK to be placed under special measures. However, it has now recovered from this, receiving a rating of ‘good’ in its last inspection. 

Also in 2009, the school achieved 92% A*-C grades at GCSE (above the national average). More recently in 2020 60% of all grades were at a 7, 8 or 9.
