  2. The remaining places will be available to all other highest scoring applicants.

School Summary

The Blue Coat School was established in 1708  and is a mixed grammar school in Liverpool, Merseyside. The school became an academy in 2012  specialises in science and maths. Blue Coat was originally a boarding school for boys but became a mixed school in 2002. It is the only grammar school in Liverpool.

At Blue Coat, “it is not just OK to be different, it’s great to be different”.

 In 2019, over half of the school’s GCSE grades were Grade 8 or above and over three-quarters where Grade 7 and above.  At A-Level, nearly two-thirds of grades were Grade A or above and over three quarters were Grade B or above.

Pass mark —  Changes every year. Places are awarded in order of the highest overall score. 

Pupils who qualify for free schools meals must score 213 or above to qualify for a place. 

Other exam information — 

  •  There are two papers - one English and one maths.

  • There will be a break between the tests.

  • Exams are marked out of 300.

Scores will be standardised.
