Catchment area —  Upton Hall School does not have a set catchment area. However, to break a tie, priority is given based on location and distance from the school. Preference will be given to children with the shortest distance from their home to the school as measured by Wirral Local Authority’s computer mapping system.

Oversubscription policy — In each of the identified criteria below, a requirement of applicants is that they have passed the entrance examinations.

Where qualifying applications for admission exceed the number of places available, places will be determined as follows:

  1. Baptised Roman Catholic girls (including any girl who was baptised a Christian and can demonstrate that she has subsequently been admitted to the Roman Catholic Church). 

  2. Girls, who have not been baptised into the Roman Catholic Church, whose parents wish them to have a Roman Catholic education. 

In the event of oversubscription in any of the above categories, places will be allocated in order of merit based on the score in the Examination. If there are several candidates at the 156th place with equal marks in the order of merit, priority will be given to those girls whose homes are nearest the school. 

School Summary

Upton Hall School was established in 1849 and is an all-girls, Roman Catholic, grammar school in  Wirral, Merseyside. The school became an academy in 2012 and it is both an International School and a training school. 

Upton Hall is a member of the FCJ (Faithful Companions of Jesus) Academy Trust. It is one of the five schools run by the trust across England and Jersey. The Trust was established by the congregation of the Faithful Companions of Jesus to work with schools to ensure that they operate within the teachings, tenets and practices of the Catholic Church in accordance with the ethos reflecting the FCJ charism.

Exam length — 2x 60 minute exams.

Pass mark —  236.

Other exam information — 

  • The test is in two separate booklets.

  • Students are required to mark answers on a separate answer sheet, which is scored by computer.

  • There will be a break between the tests.
