Catchment area —  Urmston Grammar School has a catchment area that is defined in accordance of distance from the school to home address as per a straight line. Please note postcodes M41 and M31 are prioritised, followed by the remaining candidates. 

Oversubscription policy — Before the application of oversubscription criteria, eligible students with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) which names the school and who have passed the assessment will be admitted. As a result of this the published admissions number will be reduced accordingly.

Where qualifying applications for admission exceed the number of places available, places will be determined as follows:

  1. “Looked after” children, or who were previously looked after.

  2.  The 20 top scoring candidates, irrespective of home residence.

  3. 10 places will be allocated to the highest performing candidates who qualify for Pupil Premium, irrespective of distance.

  4. Children who have parents who are serving members of Urmston Grammar staff, and who have had a permanent contract at UGS for at least eight continuous years will be offered a place.

  5. All remaining places will be allocated in accordance with their distance from the school to their home address as per a straight line, firstly by M41 and M31 postcodes followed by the remaining candidates.

School Summary

Urmston Grammar School was established in 1929 and  is a mixed grammar school in Manchester. The school became an academy in 2010 and specialises in science and languages. 

The school was awarded High Performing Specialist School status in 2007 and can often be found in the top 5% of schools in the UK. It was  one of the first converter academies in the country.
