Catchment area —  Wallington County Grammar School does not have a catchment area but Sutton postcodes are prioritised. 

Over-subscription policy — In the event of more applicants than available places in year 7, places will be given with the following priorities:

  1. Looked after children or children who were previously looked after.

  2. Children with the highest scores in rank order of performance in the SET (up to 110 places).

  3. Children who received pupil premium,  with the highest scores in rank order of performance in the SET (up to 25 places).

  4. Children living in Sutton postcodes [SM1, SM2, SM3, SM4, SM5, SM6, SM7, KT4 8, CR0 4, and CR4 4] (up to 15 places).

  5. Children of permanent staff at the school who have worked for two or more years. 

In the event two or more boys have the same rank order and where the admission would exceed the number of places available, places will be allocated in the order of the distance of their homes from the main pedestrian entrance of Wallington County Grammar School measured in a straight line on a map

School Summary

Wallington County Grammar School was founded in 1927 and is an all-boys selective grammar school with mixed sixth form. It became an academy in 2011 and specialises in science and applied learning. 

The school is a Leading Edge Partnership School which  working with other schools to raise achievement. It is also a member of the PiXL 6 and the Challenge Partnership programme.

Exam Information

Exam style — Selective Eligibility Test (SET) for the Sutton Schools

The schools have not announced their exam provider in order to make the exams fair for all candidates.

Exam types:

  • English 

  • Mathematics

Exam length — 45 minutes each.

Pass mark — The pass mark is decided by the school after the tests have been marked.

Please note that parents are not informed of the exact score their child achieved. They are only told whether their child has passed.

Children who are unsuccessful will sometimes be informed of their marks.

Other exam information — 

  • Maths and English exams are taken back to back on the same day.

  • All questions are multiple choice in both the English and Maths exams. 

  • Candidates record their answers on a separate answer sheet.

  • The scores from both tests are combined to create the overall entrance test score.

  • Scores will be standardised.
