National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) — Complete 2025 Guide for Parents & Pupils
What Is the NCEE?
The National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) is Nigeria’s national placement test for admission into Federal Unity Colleges — some of the country’s most respected secondary schools.
It’s organised annually by NECO (National Examinations Council) for Primary 6 pupils seeking entry into JSS 1.
Every year, thousands of families across Nigeria prepare their children for the exam, which tests a pupil’s core literacy, numeracy, and reasoning skills.
If your child is currently in Primary 6, the NCEE 2025 is likely their biggest academic milestone yet.
Eligibility Requirements
To register for the NCEE 2025, your child must:
Be in Primary 6 (final year of primary school).
Be 10–13 years old by September 2025.
Attend an approved primary school in Nigeria or an equivalent abroad.
Provide a birth certificate and passport photo during registration.
💡Exam Coach Tip: Parents often ask if pupils below 10 years can sit the NCEE. The answer is usually no, unless granted special concession by NECO. You can read more in our NCEE Age Policy and Concessions Guide.
NCEE 2025 Exam Format
The NCEE is divided into two papers:
Paper I – Qualifying Examination
Mathematics and Basic Science (Quantitative Reasoning included)
English and Social Studies (Verbal Reasoning included)
Paper II – Admission Test
Designed for pupils who meet the qualifying cut-off mark.
Focuses on core reasoning, reading comprehension, and applied maths skills.
Each section tests understanding rather than rote memorisation, so pupils should focus on concept mastery, time management, and accuracy.
🧮 Example: A typical NCEE Maths question might ask pupils to estimate, reason, and calculate under time pressure — not just recall formulas.

Parents can check results by entering their child’s registration number and token.
Each state has its own cut-off mark, depending on the number of available places in Unity Colleges.
Typical cut-offs range between 130 and 160 marks out of 200, but they vary by region and gender.
