Oversubscription policy — Before the application of oversubscription criteria, eligible students with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) which names the school and who have passed the assessment will be admitted. As a result of this the published admissions number will be reduced accordingly.

Where qualifying applications for admission exceed the number of places available, places will be determined as follows:

  1. Looked After and Previously Looked After children with a total standardised score of 324 and above.

  2. Up to 20 applicants who fall within the Pupil Premium criteria, who live within the School’s priority admission area and attend a Trafford State Funded Primary School with a total standardised score of 324 -333. In addition, applicants who fall within the Pupil Premium criteria, who live within the School’s priority admission area and attend a Trafford State Funded Primary School with a total standardised score of 334 and above.

  3. Up to 10 applicants who fall within the Pupil Premium criteria, who attend a Trafford State Funded Primary School with a total standardised score of 324 and above.

  4. Applicants who live within the priority admission area with a total standardised score of 334 and above.

  5. All other Applicants with a total standardised score of 334 and above (or 324 and above for applicant in receipt of Pupil Premium).

  6. All other applicants.

School Summary

Altrincham Grammar School for Boys was established in 1912 and  is an all-boys grammar school in Altrincham, Cheshire. The school became an academy in 2011. It specialises in languages.

In 2020, the school began its latest expansion, including new classrooms and a library. In October 2013, a new physics centre was opened by the physicist Brian Cox.

Altrincham Grammar School for Boys embraces education in its broadest sense, encouraging excellence in sport, the creative arts, engineering, scientific innovation and debating.
