CAT4 PARENT’S GUIDE
Exam Information
Exam style — School’s own exam and CAT4.
Exam types:
English (writing)
CAT4 (verbal, non-verbal, spatial and quantitative reasoning)
Exam lengths: 72 minutes.
The CAT4 test is composed of 8 short tests assessing the following subsections of the four areas above:
Figure Classification (10 mins)
Figure Matrices (10 mins)
Verbal Classification (8 mins)
Verbal Analogies (8 mins)
Number Analogies (10 mins)
Number Series (8 mins)
Figure Analysis (9 mins)
Figure Recognition (9 mins)
Pass mark — There is no fixed pass mark for the exam.
Other exam information:
Registration must be filled out online by the end of November in year 6.
Parents are encouraged to register their children for a taster day. There are eight scheduled taster days a year.
As part of the assessment process, your daughter will sit an interview with the headteacher and head of Year 7.
A reference from the child’s current school will be required.
